Solana Beach Head Start
Solana Beach Head Start is located in the North county coastal community of Solana Beach. This program serves low-income children ages 3-5 and their families in the Solana Beach, Del Mar, and Encinitas communities. Many families are Spanish speaking and of Mexican heritage. Some families have been residing in Solana Beach since the 1920's when Mexican farm workers established La Colonia de Eden Gardens where the Solana Beach Head Start and St. Leo's Mission now resides. There are four classrooms with children ages 3-5 years old. The program is open from 7:30am - 5:00pm. Undergraduates are encouraged to join the children for 7:30AM breakfast before MCM begins. Sharing a meal is a wonderful way to get to know the children and promotes language development.
San Pasqual Reservation Children's Center
The Children's Center a the San Pasqual Reservation is operated by the Education Department. The San Pasqual Tribe is part of the Kumeyaay Indians and is located in Valley Center. The native language is Ipai, with approximately 25 living Ipai speakers in existence. A primary goal of the Little TACKLE program is to teach children Ipai vocabulary and to develop culturally relevant curriculum that supports oral language, native vocabulary development, and school readiness skills.
There are two classrooms for children ages 3-4 and 4-5 years old. Child attend from 8am - 1pm.
